			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p style="text-align: justify;">In this class we discuss the topic “holidays”, we do a reading task which is followed by an extensive listening comprehension practice using audio-visual input.  L2 learners do creative thinking exercises to allow room for idiosyncratic language use.<span id="more-94"></span></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Then as their homework they collect pictures in order to produce a graphic representation or a montage of the Anglo-Saxon and international holidays.  Finally, they show their compilation to the class while the others evaluate them.  Since listening to authentic spoken English can easily be done by using the Direct Method, this method is significantly used here with the essential support from audio-visual input from excerpts of an episode of <span style="text-decoration: underline;">Friends</span>, namely Season 5, Episode 8: <a href="http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0583652/">The One with the Thanksgiving Flashbacks</a> and pictures from the family album and the Internet.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;"><span id="more-91"></span>In the second part Ls utilize Project-work.  For the project they should use ICT techniques to collect pictures and write descriptions of the pictures using as many prepositions as possible.  Then they design and edit their own handouts for peer-teaching.  Finally, they compile their own projects using the pictures and the prepositions, and show them to other students to correct and evaluate them.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong>Description:</strong> Second language (L2) learners in groups and in pairs collect information about an ancient civilisation, <strong>the Incas</strong> through <strong>the discovery of Machu Picchu</strong> and the extraordinary life of the discoverer <strong>Hiram Bingham</strong> (1875-1956). L2 learners give presentation, make interviews, and express opinion using texts and different activities based on <strong>Reading and</strong> <strong>Writing for Critical Thinking</strong> (RWCT).</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">The goal of this method is to develop the culture of democratic dialogue and develop partnership in schools. According to Richard Pavel /1990/ the critical thinker is someone who is able to think well, fair-mindedly about his or her beliefs and viewpoints, explores and appreciates their adequacy, cohesion and reasonableness. Attitudes and passions are included.</p>
